After the other most populated countries, Indians are at the stake and susceptible to having most chronic lung diseases due to its detoriating environment. Air that is meant to be breathed in as oxygen has turned toxic due to emission of carcinogens and multiple toxic substances from factories and various other sources.
The life expectancy for mild asthmatics is the same as for those who do not have asthma, which is about 80 years.
This doesn’t mean the person who smokes only can have Asthma but he/she can make the other person standing in smoke’s (passive smoking) radius ill too.
This is significant because rapid oxygen administration can prevent asthma-related deaths. Lack of oxygen in body ultimately leads to heart failure.
This year, more than 4,000 Americans will die from asthma attacks. This is a major drawback of being in a developed nation which doesn’t take proper measure to combat the disease.
But the exact reason is unknown. Studies show boys are more likely to have positive allergy tests, to show more bronchial hyper responsiveness and to appear to have different patterns of airway function development.
Asthma cannot be cured, but proper diagnosis, treatment and patient education can result in good asthma control and management.
