12 personnel of the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) died after they were ambushed by Maoists in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. The incident took place when Maoists opened indiscriminate fire on a road opening party (ROP) between Bhejji and Kuttacheru in the morning.
According to media reports Maoists looted 10 weapons from slain security personnel of CRPF in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. According to CRPF officials, the security personnel were providing security to road construction teams when the IED blast occurred.
Five troopers were injured in the naxal attack. According to police officials two Maoists were also killed in the counter attack by the security forces. Home Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to visit Sukma to take stock of the situation here.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the deaths of the CRPF personnel. Narendra Modi: "Saddened by the killing of CRPF personnel in Sukma. Tributes to the martyrs and condolences to their families. May the injured recover quickly,"
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh tweeted after the naxal attack in Sukma district. Raman Singh: "Deeply hurt by the loss of our CRPF jawans in Sukma. Will be forever grateful for their selfless contribution. Heartfelt condolence."
