A coach of Jammu Tawi-New Delhi Rajdhani Express derailed at the New Delhi Railway station in Delhi. The incident took place around 6.00 am when the train was entering the platform but no passenger has been injured with the accident.
2017 has just reached a mid and proved fateful for railways with a long list of train accidents succumbing to injuries and death of several passengers. Seven coaches of the Shaktipunj Express derailed near Obara Railway Station in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh. The train was on its way to Jabalpur from Howrah. No casualties were reported. The train was running at a speed of about 40 km/hr, which, officials say, prevented any injuries when the incident occurred.
9 coaches and engine of Nagpur Mumbai Duronto Express derailed near Titwala, some people were injured but no deaths were reported. The Nagpur-Mumbai Duronto derailed between Vasind and Asangaon stations at 6.30 AM.
Auraiya train derailment occurred when the train derailed between Pata and Achalda railway stations. Over 74 people were injured. A sand dumper trespassing railway tracks in Auriya district of Uttar Pradesh caused derailment of Kaifiyat Express on the intervening night of 22 and 23 August, injuring around 50 people, according to initial reports. The accident derailed nine coaches of the Delhi-bound train.
Thirteen coaches of the Puri-Haridwar Kalinga Utkal Express derailed at Khatauli near Muzzafarnagar in western Uttar Pradesh, killing over 20 people and injuring at least 200. The railways announced a compensation of Rs. 3.5 lakh for the family of those killed and Rs. 50,000 for those seriously injured.
Ten people were injured when the express train derailed near Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. The derailment happened near a bridge over the Koshi river. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced Rs 50,000 compensation to those seriously injured and Rs 25,000 to people with minor injuries.
The engine of a goods train derailed between Madpur and Jakpur stations in West Bengal. The derailment had affected train services. However, there was no casualty. A study carried out by IndiaSpend website had claimed that “excessive traffic” and “underinvestment in rail infrastructure” were main factors for derailments.
A total of 52 passengers were injured when the Mahakaushal Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh. The train, which runs between Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh and Hazrat Nizamuddin in Delhi derailed near Kulpahar station.
Four women were killed when a passenger train rammed into an ambulance at an unmanned level crossing at Mannekote-Talaka road in Karnataka's Chitradurga district. The ambulance driver misjudged the speed of the approaching train and tried to cross the unmanned level crossing.
Eight people were injured, two of them seriously, in an explosion in the Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train near Jabdi station in Madhya Pradesh. The state government had called it a terrorist attack.
The engine and the three coaches of the Delhi-bound Kalindi Express was derailed at the Tundla Junction in Uttar Pradesh. The derailment happened when the train rammed into a freight train from the back.
Twenty-seven people were killed and 36 others were injured when nine coaches of the express train derailed in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district.
