Aadhaar is the world's largest biometric identity system maintained by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) with approximately 134 crore live Aadhaar holders. It is one of the most important documents.
Since the Aadhaar card contains all your important data and is linked with your mobile number, it becomes extremely important to keep your Aadhaar card safe. The Aadhaar Card is the 12-digit unique identification number issued by the Government of India to every citizen. Starting from banking operations to online transactions, the Aadhaar card is one of the most essential documents for every official work. The Aadhaar Card contains the demographic and biometric data of the cardholder and is essential for availing government benefits and other official work.
Aadhaar number holder can lock his or her Aadhaar (UID) via UIDAI website (www.myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in) or through mAadhaar app. By doing this Aadhaar number holder cannot perform any sort of Authentication using UID, UID Token & VID for Biometrics, Demographic & OTP modality
Enter the Login credentials such as your 12-digit Aadhaar number (UID) and the captcha code and generate OTP. You will get the one-time password on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP along with a password of your choice.
To lock or unlock your Aadhaar account, one must either visit the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) website or go directly to the “My Aadhar” option of the website to access “Aadhar services”.
Under the Aadhaar Services section, go to the ‘Lock/Unlock Biometrics’ option.
Enter the Login credentials such as your 12-digit Aadhaar number (UID) and the captcha code and generate OTP. You will get the one-time password on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP along with a password of your choice.
Click the check box beside ‘Enable Biometric Locking’ and then click the ‘enable’ button again. Your Aadhaar card biometrics are now locked. According to the UIDAI's official website, an individual can select UID Lock Radio Button and enter UID Number, Full Name, and Pin Code as in latest details and enter Security code. Click on Send OTP or select TOTP and click on submit. Your UID will be locked successfully.
As per the UIDAI's official website, to unlock UID, Aadhaar number holder may visit UIDAI website (https://resident.uidai.gov.in/aadhaar-lockunlock), select Unlock radio button, Enter Latest VID and security Code and click on send OTP or select TOTP and click on Submit. Your UID will be unlocked successfully. Aadhaar number holder may also use Aadhaar lock or unlock service through mAadhaar app.
