Daryl Mitchell scripted history during the third and final ODI at the Holkar Stadium in Indore (January 18). After smashing yet another century in the series decider against India, Mitchell is set to secure top ODI batter spot in ICC ranking.
Mitchell started with an impressive 84 runs in Vadodara, while he played an unbeaten knock of 131, guiding New Zealand to 7-wicket victory. Mitchell smashed another century in the series decider against India.
Mitchell has smashed five consecutive 50+ scores against India on Indian soil, out of which four are centuries.
Mitchell has previously smashed two centuries against India in 2023, which includes a knock of 130 in Dharamshala in the league stage, while he scored 134 in semi-final at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium
Daryl Mitchell's four centuries against India in India are the second-most in history. Only South African great Ab de Villiers has scored more hundreds in India against the Men in Blue.
Mitchell's four centuries in India place him joint-fifth among visiting players, behind Quinton de Kock and Ab de Villiers (7), Chris Gayle (5), and Ricky Ponting (4) in terms of most ODI hundreds scored on Indian soil.
Mitchell has also become the first visiting player in history to score over 300 runs against India in a three-match ODI series. The previous record was held by Sri Lanka's Roy Dias for 44 years, since 1982.
Mitchell ended the series with 352 runs at an average of 176, the third-highest total in a three-match bilateral ODI series.
Mitchell fell just eight runs short of the world record of 360 runs, jointly held by Babar Azam and Shubman Gill.
Mitchell's total is the highest ever by a player against India in a three-match bilateral series, surpassing Quinton de Kock’s 342 runs in 2013. The previous best by a visiting player in a three-match series was 330 runs, scored by Martin Guptill against England in 2013.
