In a significant move by the Ministry of Railways, the first prototype of the Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset has been manufactured and will undergo field trials. In a press release published on Friday, the Ministry of Railways said that the timeline of the rollout of the train is subject to the successful completion of the trials. The new Vande Bharat sleeper train can reach speeds of up to 180 km/h, although it will operate at a maximum speed of 160 km/h as per Indian Railways' approval. With its rapid acceleration and deceleration capabilities, the Vande Bharat sleeper is designed to maintain a higher average speed than the premium Rajdhani Express.

The first prototype of the Vande Bharat sleeper train features 16 passenger coaches. The setup includes 11 AC 3-tier coaches, 4 AC 2-tier coaches, and one AC First Class coach.
