The crisis is primarly caused due to India's heavy dependence on West Asia for its crude oil and LPG requirements.
State-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation has started commercial gas supply from Platform B-12-24P under the Daman Upside Development Project (DUDP).
The platform was successfully commissioned on March 29, with the announcement made on March 30 by the company.
The offshore project is situated in the Arabian Sea, about 180 km northwest of Mumbai and 80 km south of Pipavav.
The DUDP project has been developed with an investment of around $1 billion.
Gas from the platform is being sent to the Hazira Plant, with the project completed in under two years using innovative Drill-Deck methods and strong team performance.
This marks the start of gas monetisation, with output from all wells set to be ramped up in phases.
The development is crucial for India as it looks to boost domestic gas production amid geopolitical tensions, given that the country imports nearly half of its natural gas needs.
