In a big move by the Government of India, India has started to source LPG from the US and LNG supplies Australia and Russia.

The government says it is actively managing the situation to maintain fuel availability.
However, consumers, on the ground, are facing active shortage of LPG cylinders due to black marketing and hoarding.

India has started sourcing LPG from the United States to reduce risk.
India has also started securing LNG supplies Australia and Russia.
Around 90% of India’s LPG imports earlier passed through the Strait of Hormuz.
The heavy dependence on LPG imports made India vulnerable to disruptions in the region.

Despite the efforts of the government, LPG availability remains tight in several areas.
The conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States has expanded to energy infrastructure of India.
LNG supplies are also being arranged from countries like Australia and Russia.
In the recent development, Israel has reportedly struck the South Pars Gas Field, the world’s largest gas field, owned by Qatar and Iran.
Notably, the South Pars Gas Field is very vital for global LNG supply.
At this point in time, India requires the war to stop so that uninterrupted supply of LPG is ensured.
