An aircraft of Jet Airways lands during rain showers in Mumbai. Dozens of flights were diverted from Mumbai after a SpiceJet plane overshot the runway and became stuck in the mud as heavy rain lashed India's financial capital and caused travel chaos.
Heavy rains were recorded in many areas leading to traffic jams and waterlogging. Schools and colleges have been asked to remain closed today. A high tide that was expected to hit the city's shoreline shortly before midnight could make things worse, it said.
Even rains could not stop Nutan Salunkhe, the bride, to marry Santosh Kadam at a hall submerged under water near Nehru Nagar in Kurla amid heavy showers of rains. The father escorting the bride, Nutan, to the marriage hall, a customary practice in traditional Marathi marriages.
Mumbai Monsoon Commuters had to use the road dividers as Dairy Road at Nehru Nagar in Kurla submerged under water after heavy rains continued to lash the city.
The MeT department has estimated heavy downpour to continue for next 24 hours in Mumbai along with a high tide today evening.
BMC came to action soon after rains lashed Mumbai city and pulled socks to get to repair work, before situation of Mumbai roads worsens.
After Mumbai was lashed with rain last week creating a flood like situation, showers again gave some respite amid few problems to Mumbaikars from the scorching heat.
