The Government on Tuesday rejoiced in the Supreme Court ruling on the plea by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking directions to Kolkata police chief Rajeev Kumar to cooperate with the agency in its probe in Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund scam. Welcoming the apex court order, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “Lakhs of small investors were looted and cheated in Saradha scam. Why is Mamata ji silent on this? Why other political parties are silent? Today is a great moral victory of the CBI.”Refusing to allow it to become a political debate, Prasad said, “This order was given by the Supreme Court to investigate the conspiracy angle and also money laundering angle. This investigation must be done in a fair manner. Let’s not politicise it. This is a great moral victory for the CBI.”

The Uttar Pradesh Assembly’s budget session started on a stormy note after the opposition, especially BSP and SP MLAs hurled paper balls towards the podium while Governor Ram Naik addressed a joint sitting of the state legislature highlighting the achievements of the Yogi Adityanath government. As soon as the governor began reading out his speech, opposition members reportedly started raising anti-government slogans and shouted ‘Rajyapal Wapas Jao (Governor Go Back)’. They soon started hurling paper balls towards the podium which were deflected by members of the staff using cardboard files. Amid the din, the governor kept reading out his speech, which highlights various welfare and development schemes, besides achievements of the Uttar Pradesh government.

Taking a dig at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday claimed that the former has no place to stand in his state, hence was roaming around in Bengal.“Ask Yogi to take care of Uttar Pradesh first. So many people have been killed, even police were murdered, so many people were lynched. He doesn’t have a place to stand in Uttar Pradesh that’s why he’s roaming around in Bengal,”Mamata said, on being asked about Yogi Adityanath’s rally in Purulia. Notably, Yogi’s visit comes amid the ongoing tussle between Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government and the CBI, which sent a team to question police commissioner Rajeev Kumar in Saradha chit-fund scams.
