Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Invoking Sabarimala Issue Will be Clear Violation of Model Code of Conduct, Warns Kerala Chief Electoral Officer
Ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2019, the Kerala Chief Electoral Officer on Monday said that by no means political parties should invoke Sabarimala issue for garnering votes or it will be considered a clear violation of the model code of conduct which came into effect on Sunday. While the Kerala CEC warned against doing any propaganda on the controversial issue, it said that action will be taken if any party is found guilty. “Citing/invoking or doing some sort of religious propaganda based on #Sabarimala issue/judgement will be a clear violation of the model code of conduct and we will be taking action, ” news agency ANI reported Kerala Chief Electoral Officer T R Meena as saying. On Sunday, the Election Commission announced the poll schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2019, which will be held in seven phases starting from April 11 and conclude with counting on May 23 for all phases.
