In a conversation with Economic Times, Milind Lakkad, chief human resource officer of TCS asserted they are starting a few proofs of concept (PoCs) on gig models. “We have a set of activities which can be crowd-outsourced and can be given out to people who are interested. The reward mechanism (for the gig) doesn't have to be (monetary) compensation but definitely something that recognises people", ET quoted Lakkad as saying.
Many IT companies have been arranging new models or leveraging previously set-up models to engage their employees on gig-based projects.
Of late, companies are doubling down on these projects as their staff are busy in moonlighting---a practice where an employee works for a second job outside his/her regular business hours.
Many believe that staff’s gradual return to office floors will likely ease the concerns.
The term (moonlighting) first came to light after Wipro revealed it fired 300 employees as they were moonlighting.Some of the reports claimed that Wipro tracked ‘cheater’ employees who were working for its competitors using their Universal Account Number (UAN) from the employers’ portal of the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF).
