Cricket has witnesses many incredible feats, but there are few charismatic records that have been etched in history.One such record is that of a batsman scoring a half-century in just 9 balls. What makes it even more remarkable is that this wasn’t achieved in a local tournament or a T20 league, but in international cricket.
Bowlers and fielders were in disbelief as he dominated the game. Not only did he equal Yuvraj Singh’s record of hitting 6 sixes in 6 balls, but he also broke the record for the fastest half-century in international cricket.
This match took place in 2023 during the Asian Games, featuring Nepal against Mongolia. Nepal played a dominant game, with their all-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee, batting at number 5, making a spectacular impact.
He came into bat during the 19th over, with only 11 balls remaining, Airee began smashing sixes from the very first delivery he faced.
Dipendra Singh Airee faced 9 balls out of the remaining 11 when he came to bat. The wicket fell on the first ball of the 19th over, bringing him to the crease. The bowler delivered two wides, but the first legal ball was dispatched across the boundary by Dipendra. He repeated this feat with the next four balls, reaching 30 runs in just 5 balls.
At the start of the 20th over, captain Kushal handed Dipendra all 5 balls of the final over. On the second ball, he cleared the boundary again, reaching 36 in 6 balls and equaling Yuvraj Singh’s record of 6 sixes in 6 balls. He ran 2 runs on the third ball, then hit sixes on the next two deliveries, completing his half-century in just 9 balls and creating an unbreakable record. In total, he scored 52 runs off 10 balls, breaking Yuvraj Singh’s record of a fifty in 12 balls and etching his name in cricket history.
Nepal's team registered the highest score of 314 runs in T20 International history in this match. However, a year later Zimbabwe broke this record by scoring 344 runs. From Nepal's side, Kushal Malla also played a stormy innings of 137 runs in 50 balls with the help of 12 sixes and 8 fours.
Captain Rohit Paudel scored 61 runs in 27 balls with the help of 6 sixes and 2 fours. On the basis of these innings, Nepal's team reached a score of 314 and registered a big win by 273 runs.
