Akash Kumar walked in to bat at number eight when the team's score was 576 for 6, following a double hundred from Arpit Bhatiwara and two other centuries from middle-order batters. Given the freedom to attack, Akash Kumar took the total to 628 for 6.

Interestingly, after reaching his fifty, Akash Kumar played three dot balls, bringing his explosive knock to an end and leading Meghalaya to declare at that total. Choudhary remained unbeaten on 50 from 14 balls, hitting eight sixes without a single four. He became only the second player, after Ravi Shastri, to smash six sixes in one over in Ranji Trophy history.

This achievement breaks a 13-year-old record, which was previously held by Wayne White, who took 12 balls to reach his fifty in a County Championship game for Leicestershire against Essex. Interestingly, in that 2012 match, White’s teammate Ned Eckersley also scored a fifty in just 14 balls, as the two added 77 runs in only 20 deliveries together.
