The bond between Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers is well known in the cricketing world. However, when de Villiers was recently asked to name the 5 best cricketers he has played with or against in Test cricket, De Villiers excluded Virat Kohli from the list.
Virat Kohli, who took Test cricket to a different level after becoming the captain, did not make into De Villiers list. He also apologized to Kohli for this.
The list includes all-rounders Jacques Kallis, Andrew Flintoff along with Pakistan's pacer Mohammad Asif, Australia's legend Shane Warne and India's great Sachin Tendulkar.
"Kallis, Flintoff, Mohammad Asif, Warne... and Sachin with the crowd. When Tendulkar came out to bat, the way he was greeted, it was like everything had stopped. It was great to watch him bat. Virat... sorry, Sachin. That's why it's so difficult to answer such questions," De Villiers said on the Beard Before Wicket podcast.
De Villiers also mentioned that Jacques Kallis is probably the best cricketer of all time. "Kallis is the best all-rounder or maybe the best cricketer of all time," he said.
He also named tainted Pakistan's bowler Mohammad Asif as the best bowler he faced. "Asif was the best fast bowler I faced. I loved playing against Warne but I never had any difficulty. I liked his overall personality, floppy hat, zinc cream, blonde hair," he said.
De Villiers further said, "Once again Andrew Flintoff, who used to perform well in big matches. The yorker he bowled to Kallis at Edgbaston was the best yorker I have ever seen."
