According to a report by RevSportz, CAB sent a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), requesting the exclusion of Bhogle and Doull from commentating duties at Eden Gardens. The letter cited their criticism of the pitch and the actions of the venue’s curator, Sujan Mukherjee, as the primary reason.
CAB feel curator Sujan Mukherjee has done nothing wrong. "He is only following the BCCI rule book which states that no franchise can have a say on the nature of the pitch. He has also followed the guidelines about how the wicket should be prepared," a report in Revsportz website read.
The issue took center stage when Bhogle and Doull publicly criticized Mukherjee for the nature of the pitch used in a recent KKR match. Doull even went as far as suggesting that KKR should consider relocating from Eden Gardens if the pitch conditions didn’t improve.
BCCI had earlier removed commentator Irfan Pathan before IPL 2025 season due to his 'personal bias' about certain players, according to media reports.
In its defense, CAB clarified that Mukherjee had followed the guidelines laid out in the rulebook, which prevents any franchise from influencing pitch preparation. The association emphasized that Eden Gardens, while serving as KKR’s home venue, remains an independent and neutral ground governed by CAB.
Despite KKR’s concerns, Sujan Mukherjee, Eden Gardens' pitch curator, reportedly resisted pressure to tailor the pitch to the franchise’s preferences. His stance drew both criticism and support—criticism from commentators and KKR, and support from the CAB.
