Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam were dropped of Pakistan's 17-man Asia Cup 2025 squad as the team for the Asia Cup and the tri-series between Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Pakistan will be led by Salman Ali Agha, with Mohammad Haris selected as the wicketkeeper. Fakhar Zaman and star pacer Shaheen Afridi were picked, but experienced Babar and Rizwan were left out.
Hasan Ali, Faheem Ashraf, and Haris Rauf were the other notable players to be included in Pakistan's 17-member squad. Hasan Nawaz and Saim Ayub, two rising stars, were also included.
From September 9 to September 28, the United Arab Emirates will host the 2025 Asia Cup. Along with India, UAE, Oman, and Pakistan were assigned to Group A. On September 12, Pakistan will play their first match against Oman. On September 14, they will play India, and on September 17, they will play the UAE.
Pakistan’s performance at the 2023 Asia Cup was below par. The team lost two of their three Super 4 matches in the ODI tournament, preventing them from reaching the final.
Pakistan lost to Sri Lanka in the final in 2022 and finished as runners-up.
Pakistan will gear up for the Asia Cup by participating in a T20I tri-series against Afghanistan and the UAE.
