Pakistan Shaheen vs England Lions T20I series was called off in midst of Israel-Iran War last week. "The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that the ongoing series between Pakistan Shaheens and England Lions in Abu Dhabi has been called off. The decision was mutually agreed following ongoing security developments in the Middle East region and after consultations between the two Boards. In light of the escalating situation in Abu Dhabi and the wider region, it has also been decided that there will be no further play in the series, which comprised three T20 matches and five 50-over matches," a statement from Pakistan Cricket Board read.
Iran has been attacking different areas of Dubai and UAE in the middle of war against Israel and Dubai. Hotel and even USA Embassy in Dubai was recently hit by drones.
Pakistan Shaheen team cricketers had to move to basement as drone struck nearby their hotel in Dubai. "Pakistan Shaheen team deserves special government attention as they are stuck in a hotel close to which drones have hit … team took shelter in the basement.. pls attend this issue @CMShehbaz," a Pakistan journalist posted on 'X'.
England Lions cricket team have already reached back to UK. "We can confirm that the England Men's Lions squad and UK-based coaching staff left Abu Dhabi this morning and are now safely back in the UK," an ECB spokesperson said. There is no word when Pakistan Shaheen team will be evacuated out of Dubai.
Spin bowler Sufiyan Muqeem, who was part of Pakistan team in Asia Cup 2025, is currently with Shaheen squad who are stuck in Dubai.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has already fined Pakistan team Rs 50 lakh for poor show in T20 World Cup 2026. But Naqvi has made no statement about evacuation of players from Dubai.
England cricket Jonny Bairstow is also stuck in Dubai, although he was not part of Lions squad. It is understood that the Professional Cricketers' Association is looking into arrangements to assist his return, after Bairstow initially reached out to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on social media.
