Auckland City FC suffered an emphatic 10-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in FIFA Club World Cup Group C opener.
Auckland narrowly avoided an early goal through the efforts of the goal keeper but it did not take long before Bayern gained control of the game. The opening goal by Coman startled a sequence of goals during the first half. The team German juggernaut presented its better skills and strategic expertise.
Bayern had a good first team selection featuring Harry Kane and Thomas Mller. This lineup, consisting of stars was too much to handle by Auckland City. The Oceania leaders had a hard task taming such a powerful team.
Auckland City was used to dictating the results of domestic matches, but now it had to fight on the defensive. Until Bayern was on their side, their defence was swamped with their low block tactic.
Bayern led strongly with Jamal Musiala scoring a hat-trick as a substitute. Thomas Muller also netted twice, his 250th goal in his career. The supremacy of Bayern persisted in the second half.
Auckland City are still concentrated on their next game despite the heavy loss. They will be playing against Benfica in Orlando. This is another major challenge to the Oceania champions. The resilience will be under test one more time.
