4. New Zealand against Kenya in 2003
Like England, New Zealand also hesitated to tour Kenya due to security concerns, as the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, was under terrorist threat. The Blackcaps refused to play their scheduled game in Nairobi and ended up conceding four points to the hosts.
Despite this, New Zealand won four of their remaining five matches and progressed to the Super Six stage alongside Sri Lanka and Kenya. However, Kenya shocked the 1996 champions by carrying over 10 points into the next round, while Sri Lanka and New Zealand had 7.5 and 4 points respectively. Australia and India dominated the Super Six, defeating all three Group B opponents. Zimbabwe, meanwhile, lost to the Group B teams. In the end, Kenya and Sri Lanka advanced to the semi-finals with 14 and 11.5 points, while New Zealand finished with only eight. Had New Zealand toured Kenya and won, they could have reached the top four, leaving Kenya with 10 points.
