When a young cricketer goes to play a series against England in England for the first time, it can become a big turning point in his career. Sachin Tendulkar's tour of England at the age of 17 was one such occasion, where he gave the world a glimpse of the decades to come.
The most surprising thing was that Tendulkar also carried his school books with him on that tour as he also had to prepare for his tenth class examination.
On a BBC Radio 5 Live show in 2013, cricket legend Kapil Dev said, “He was very quiet. He didn’t talk much and would just watch. He was a normal kid who came with his books.”
Kapil Dev further said, “His balance was amazing… hard to believe! And he didn’t hit the ball, but pushed it. He had a very heavy bat, which no one used at that time.”
Kapil Dev shared another special thing that Tendulkar used to write and eat with his left hand, but batted and bowled with his right hand. He said, “I then realised that this child is a genius who has strength in both hands.”
Kapil Dev concluded by saying, “The future of cricket lies in those players who have balanced strength, so that they can control the balance of the ball and their body.”
