Harmanpreet Kaur's Indian team has a chance to make history when they face South Africa in the Women's World Cup 2025 final at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday. The big match is expected to be exciting, with a full crowd at the venue. India reached the final after defeating seven-time winners Australia in the semi-final, thanks to Jemimah Rodrigues’ brilliant century that helped them chase a record target in women’s ODIs. Meanwhile, South Africa booked their spot by beating England in the other semi-final held in Guwahati.
This will be India's third appearance in a World Cup final, while South Africa have reached this stage for the first time ever. However, the match might be affected by rain, with a 25% chance of showers that could interrupt the game.
There's a possibility that rain could cause several interruptions during the final. But if the match cannot be played at all that day, fans need not worry, as the ICC's rules already include plans for bad weather.
As per the World Cup rules, a backup day has been set for the final on November 2. If rain stops play on Sunday, the teams will come back on Monday to complete the match and decide the winner fairly.
Still, the match officials and referee will try their best to finish the game on the scheduled day, even if it has to be shortened. It's important to remember that both teams must play at least 20 overs each for the result to count.
If the match moves to the reserve day and rain prevents play again, then India and South Africa will share the World Cup title.
The match officials must do everything possible to finish the game on the planned day, even if it means reducing the number of overs.
If rain disrupts the 50-over match on the scheduled day, the number of overs will be reduced based on how much time is lost. If play still can’t continue after that, the game will restart as a full 50-over match on the reserve day.
But if play restarts on the scheduled day after reducing the overs and rain stops the game again, the same reduced number of overs will apply on the reserve day. For the match to have a result, each team must play at least 20 overs.
If rain also prevents play on the reserve day, the trophy will be shared, and both teams will be named joint winners.
