The 35-year-old right-handed batter played an impactful knock of 160 off 242 balls in England's first innings at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Root who smashed his maiden century in Australia during the second Ashes Test at the Gabba in Brisbane, brought up his 150 with a single off the final ball of the 89th over, bowled by Mitchell Starc.

The record for scoring 150 or more runs in a single Test innings the most number of times belongs to batting legend Sachin Tendulkar. During his 24-year Test career from 1989 to 2013, Tendulkar featured in 200 matches for India and smashed 51 centuries out of which he crossed the 150-run mark 20 times.
Tendulkar is followed by Brian Lara and Kumar Sangakkara, who have both registered 19 scores of 150 or more in Tests, with Sir Don Bradman next on the list with 18, 150+ scores.
