Chennai Super Kings captain and Maharashtra skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, scripted history in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, as the right-handed batter became only the second player in the tournament's history to smash 100 sixes while representing his state team.
Gaikwad has scored 257 runs in five innings at an impressive average of 64.25 and a strike rate of 120.65, which include one century and one half-century. With the highest scores of 124 off 113 balls and 66 off 52 balls in his last two matches.
Ruturaj Gaikwad became the fastest player to reach 100 sixes in the tournament, achieving the milestone in the previous edition. Starting the current season with 100 sixes, he has already added five more in his first five matches.
In the all-time list of Vijay Hazare Trophy six-hitters, Ruturaj Gaikwad ranks second on the list just behind Manish Pandey, who has smashed 108 sixes in 103 matches. Vishnu Vinod, Yusuf Pathan, and Ishan Kishan also make up the top five.
Ruturaj Gaikwad was excluded from India's squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand.
The BCCI announced the 15-player squad on January 3, with Shreyas Iyer, returning from injury, taking Gaikwad's place for the series beginning January 11.
Gaikwad made a strong impact in India's recent ODI series against South Africa, scoring 105 off 83 balls in Raipur, which featured 12 fours and two sixes.
With Shreyas Iyer back in the squad, Gaikwad has once again been left out. The 28-year-old has amassed 228 runs in eight ODIs at an average of 28.50 and a strike rate of 89.77, which one century and one half-century.
