Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been dropped from India's ODI squad against New Zealand has been in headlines recently due to his red-hot form.
Ruturaj smashed his 15th century for Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, equalling his teammate Ankit Bawne for the most hundreds in the tournament's history.
During his knock, Ruturaj also crossed the 5,000-run mark in the format and, became the fastest player to reach the milestone and entered the elite list of fastest players to score 5000 List A runs.
Gaikwad reached 5,000 runs in 95 innings, followed by Pakistan's Babar Azam in 97 innings, Viv Richards in 101 innings, and Virat Kohli in 114 innings.
Gaikwad has scored a total of 5,060 runs in 95 List A innings at an average of 58.82. Ruturaj holds the highest-ever batting average in 50-over cricket for players with a minimum of 50 innings.
Maharashtra scored set a modest target of 249/7 in their 50 overs, thanks to an impressive knock form Ruturaj Gaikwad (134 off 131), along with crucial contributions from Vicky Ostwal (53 off 82) and Rajvardhan Hagargekar (32 off 19).
Maharashtra secured a thrilling 5-run victory over Goa despite crucial contributions from Kashyap Bakhale (42 off 45), Snehal Kauthankar (40 off 49), Lalit Yadav (57 off 67), and Deepraj Gaonkar (34 off 44), as the team lacked a strong finishing performance.
