The Indian team is set to face Zimbabwe on February 26 in a must-win encounter. The Men in blue will enter their second Super 8 match with an embarrassing defeat against South Africa.
Vice-captain Axar Patel may replace Washington Sundar in the playing eleven against Zimbabwe.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir held a meeting with the players ahead of the clash and worked on strategies alongside captain Surya and also spent extra time with key players during practice sessions, focusing on their roles and match plans.
Gambhir also had a detailed discussion with Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Ishan Kishan, highlighting their importance to the team's campaign.
Team India will have to win both of its matches against Zimbabwe and West Indies by a large margin, which means that both the batter and bowlers will have to contribute equally to secure victory.
Gambhir and the team will have to ensure that India wins the match against Zimbabwe by at least 100 runs or achieve the target of 150 runs within 10-12 overs. If South Africa loses to West Indies on February 26th, and India wins both of its matches, all three teams (India, South Africa, and West Indies) will have 4 points each. In this case, the two teams with the best NRR will advance to the semi-finals.
The simplest equation for the Men in Blue is that if South Africa win both of their Super 8 matches, it will favour Team India.
