Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma play T20 cricket in only Indian Premier League since they have retired from T20I format last year.
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal says Indian cricketers will not be allowed to play in overseas T20 leagues. "You look at the workload our players have. The BCCI has made a rule for the international players that they must play domestic cricket as well," Dhumal told journalist Vimal Kumar. "At the moment, there is no chance for the big players. How can they go? Some players are even playing in three formats. Workload management!" Dhumal stated.
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said workload of Indian cricketers needs to be managed for not allowing them to play in overseas T20 league. "Some bowlers, we have to give them rest after two Tests, we have to rest them in ODIs and T20Is. Now if you tell them to go abroad and play leagues, I think that would hurt the national team too," Arun Dhumal said.
Dinesh Karthik played in SA20 for Paarl Royals after announcing retirement from IPL. Karthik played for RCB till IPL 2024 season.
Ravichandran Ashwin was allowed to play in BBL after announcing IPL retirement earlier this year. Ashwin was set to make his debut for Sydney Thunder in BBL 2025-26 but pulled out due to injury.
