Tim David played a blistering knock, smashing the fastest-ever international century to help his side secure a third straight T20 series victory over West Indies with a commanding six-wicket win in St Kitts.
David hit 11 sixes and scored a glorious T20 century off just 37 balls as Australia chased down West Indies target of 214 so easily. Australia won by 7 wickets with 23 balls left to play, and took an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the five match series.
During Australia's innings, the right-hander made 71 runs in just three overs from the 10th to the 12th over. While Mitch Owen scored only five runs at the other end, he simply being a spectator as David kept smashing ball out of the short boundaries of Warner Park in Basseterre.
The West Australian came in at No. 5 with his team in trouble after losing three wickets during the Powerplay. However, the Hobart Hurricanes duo of David and Owen (36* off 16) quickly turned things around, putting on a 128-run stand for the fifth wicket and guiding Australia to victory by the 17th over.
David's explosive knock overpowered Shai Hope maiden T20 International century. Hope is only the second West Indian player to score century in all 3 formats after Chris Gayle.
He broke Josh Inglis' previous record for the fastest T20 century by an Australian which came off 43 balls by reaching the milestone six balls earlier.
Earlier in the innings, David registered the fastest T20 international fifty for Australia, hitting four successive sixes off spinner Gudakesh Motie in a 28-run over. His aggressive hitting changed the momentum and propelled the visitors to 4-120 at the halfway point.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma shares the record for the fastest T20I century reaching the milestone in just 35 balls. He achieved this feat against Sri Lanka in 2017.
