In the second ODI at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur between India and South Africa, Virat Kohli thrilled the Raipur spectators as he smashed his second consecutive ton (102 off 93 balls) in the ongoing three-match ODI series, which included seven fours and two sixes at a strike rate exceeding 109.
Virat Kohli achieved this remarkable milestone of nine T20 centuries in 397 innings.
India's defeat ended a remarkable 2,462-day streak in ODIs where Virat Kohli's centuries had always helped the team avoid losing. The previous instance was on March 8, 2019, against Australia in Ranchi, when India lost by 32 runs despite Kohli scoring a ton.
Additionally, it was for the first time in eight years that India lost while defending a total after Kohli had scored a century, the previous occasion being at Wankhede Stadium in October 2017 against New Zealand.
Virat Kohli alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad stitched a 195-run partnership for the third wicket, helping India post a massive total of 359.
Aiden Markram scored a 110 off 98 balls, while Matthew Breetzke and Dewald Brevis contributed steady half-centuries, guiding South Africa to successfully chase down the target.
Breetzke and Brevis partnership marked the joint-highest successful ODI chase against India, completed with four balls remaining.
Kohli has now scored eight ODI centuries in matches that India lost, with four of those coming when the team batted first.
In 2025, Virat Kohli looks in a solid form as he has scored 586 runs in 12 innings so far at an average of 58.60 with a strike rate of 92.72, which includes three centuries and three fifties.
