Washington Sundar starred as India chased 187 to secure a five-wicket win over Australia on Sunday, leveling the five-match T20I series. This was the first-ever T20I defeat for Australia at the Ninja Oval, previously called Bellerive Oval.

In 2017, Washington Sundar was picked by Rising Pune Supergiants as a replacement for Ravichandran Ashwin and made his debut on April 22, 2017. However, except for IPL 2020, he has never played every match for his team in a single season. In 66 IPL games, he has scored 511 runs with an average of 15.97 and a strike rate of 126.18. As a bowler, he has taken 39 wickets at an average of 36.82 and has an economy rate of 7.70. In the IPL 2025 mega-auction, he was bought by Gujarat Titans for Rs 3.20 crore.
