Royal Challengers Bengaluru has been taken over by a consortium led by the Aditya Birla Group in a deal worth Rs 167,000,000,000. The group has acquired 100 percent ownership of the franchise from United Spirits Limited.
The new ownership also brings together The Times Group, Bolt Ventures backed by investor David Blitzer and global investment firm Blackstone.
The deal includes RCB's men's and women's (WPL) teams, "RCSPL owns and operates the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchises that participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Women's Premier League (WPL)." "Upon completion of this transaction, the consortium will, through its ownership of RCSPL, acquire the rights to own and operate the IPL and WPL franchise," said the USL.
Following the massive deal, speculation is growing over whether the iconic RCB identity will remain the same or see a rebrand under the new management.
Amid growing speculation around a possible rebrand following the ownership change, a hint from Ananya Birla suggests the name is likely to stay.
