Sun temple in Konark is one of the popular temples of India. Devotees visit this temple to witness Chhath Puja celebrations. It was built in the 13th century and attracts lakhs of tourists every year.
The Sun temple in Ranchi, Jharkhand is the prime tourist attractions of the state. The structure of the Sun temple here has been designed with elegance. The shrine is designed in the form of a huge chariot with richly decorated 18 wheels and seven horses. There is a pond in the temple complex which is believed to be sacred.
The Dakshinaarka temple in Gaya is an ancient shrine dedicated to the Sun God. It is an ancient pilgrimage center since time immemorial and Hindus offers (pind daan) to the deceased. The ritual of oofferings to the dead (pindas) has been long associated with Gaya and has been mentioned in the epics. (Vaayupuraana).
