Sridevi‘s sudden death has come as a rude shock for her family, the film fraternity and all of her fans. The legenday actress passed away due to accidental drowning on February 24. She was in Dubai to attend a family wedding. On February 28, the family conducted her last rights and funeral on a large scale, which was attended by hundreds and thousands of her fans, and colleagues from the film industry. She was cremated with full state honours, wrapping her mortal remains with a tricolour. And today the In Memoriam section of the Academy Awards, paid its tribute to the iconic actress, by including her pic in their montage of photos of the deceased celebs.  Along with Sridevi, Oscars also honoured Shashi Kapoor, whom we lost last year due to kidney ailments. Many Bollywood celebrities like Vidya Balan to Varun Dhawan thanked the Academy for this honour.

Earlier today, Aamir Khan was present at a book launch. He spoke about the late actress and her mention at the Oscars this year. Speaking to the media at the event, he said, “My heart goes out to Boney and her children. It’s very saddening and untimely. She deserved the Oscar mention.” Aamir couldn’t attend the funeral and last rites of the actress on February 28 and thus was seen visiting Boney Kapoor’s residence in Lokhandwala yesterday, ie March 4, along with wife Kiran Rao to offer condolences to the family.  Apart from him, Kangana Ranaut, Ishaan Khatter, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Raj Kundra, Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli also visited the Kapoors to condole the late actress. 

Sridevi is survived by her husband, Boney Kapoor and two daughters, Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor. While her sudden death was earlier cited due to cardiac arrest, forensic reports later stated accidental death to be the reason. Following 48 hours of critical investigation, the authorities finally repatriated the mortal remains of the actress to be taken back to Mumbai, where she was eventually cremated with full state honours on Feb 28. Boney along with his two daughters immersed her ashes in Rameswaram, Chennai on March 3, 2018, which also happened to be Janhvi’s 21st birthday.
