We at India.com in the column Gossip Gal had told you a year ago (on March 15, 2015) that actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan is looking to produce a new film called The Secret Superstar. It’s been a year and Aamir has been busy prepping and shooting for Dangal, in which he plays a wrestler. So there was no confirmation on the actor’s next movie. But now, the buzz is back that Aamir has, in fact, not just made up his mind to produce but also act in it. He has signed on the dotted line for Secret Superstar. And guess what Aamir will be playing in the new film – a musician!

Grapevine is abuzz that Aamir is playing a music composer in the Secret Superstar, and also that he is not the superstar in it. Like we had told you, there will most likely be the character of a girl from a small town who will be shown as the underdog who becomes a Bollywood superstar.

Also, it will be a story of a mother and child. Well, the Secret Superstar reminds us of Aamir’s other production and directorial debut, Taare Zameen Par, where he underplayed his character. In Taare Zameen Par, Aamir appears only after the interval as a full-fledged character after making an entry in the song Bum Bum Bole. The first half is entirely dedicated to the touching story of dyslexic boy Ishaan Awasthi (Darsheel Safary). Aamir joins in as his teacher and discovers his syndrome, as he has the same syndrome.

Well, Secret Superstar may or may not have a syndrome, but it is all about letting other characters in a film get some extra footage. And we are glad that at 51, Aamir Khan is secure enough in his space to be able to give them that freedom. Think of his wife’s directorial debut Dhobi Ghat too, where he did not hog the limelight as Arun the painter.

Let’s wait to find out more about the Secret Superstar! Watch this space.
