The accident that took place in March last year is something that playback singer and anchor Aditya Narayan won’t be forgetting anytime soon. Though it was reported at the time that he did everything to help the injured parties, it has now emerged that the rickshaw driver, whose vehicle was hit by Aditya’s car, is still fighting for his life.

The accident had happened when Aditya, who is the son of playback singer Udit Narayan, was leaving his home at Oshiwara suburb to go to Andheri in his Mercedes Benz car. According to the accounts he gave then, the rickshaw was approaching at high speed from the opposite direction near Lokhandwala Circle.

“I expected him to slow down at the junction, but he didn’t brake and took a right turn… I swerved on the left to avoid him and hit the auto-rickshaw on the side, causing it to topple over twice,” Aditya had said then.

Within minutes after the accident, Aditya ensured that Surekha Ankush Shivekar, 32, and rickshaw driver Rajkumar Baburao Palekar, 64, the two who got injured in the accident, received medical treatment at a hospital.

He then arranged for his driver and the badly damaged vehicle to report to the Versova Police Station where a complaint was lodged, and he was later sent to the BMC’s RN Cooper Hospital for a blood test. Aditya was charged under Section 337 of Motor Vehicles Act, fined around Rs 10,000, and granted bail immediately.

Now almost a year after the accident, reports have emerged that Rajkumar Baburao Palekar has not fully recuperated from the accident and that his condition has worsened.

According to SpotboyE.com, Rajkumar’s son Ritesh told them exclusively that his father is out of danger but showing little improvement.

“Father doesn’t recognise me every time. He has partial memory. Many times, he doesn’t recognise my mother too. He had a stroke after he was knocked down, we still have to literally hold him and take him to the bathroom and clean him up,” Ritesh was quoted as saying.

The news portal also reported that Aditya does visit the rickshaw driver and his family at their residence, but it does not help much.

“Even his mom came to tie a rakhi once, but do these things help? I lost my job because I had to look after my dad. We had to cough up Rs 31 lakh for his treatment, out of which Aditya and Udit shelled out Rs 21 lakh. We are still Rs 10 lakh in the red. They do a lot of procrastination when it comes to giving us money. It is very tiring. Worse still, dad nowadays also gets fits. Unki body tedhi ho jaati hai and it is not easy to manage him then,” Ritesh revealed to the entertainment portal.
