Richa Chadha and Vicky Kaushal were last seen together in Masaan and they both won a lot of praises for their performance. The two have once again come together to share screen space, this time not for a movie but for a video with AIB. The video is special because it discusses how Cinema has sexualized women over the years and how there’s harassment towards women in general in films, which is often glorified as being funny or simply romantic. They have set out to communicate a strong message through the way of comedy.
Richa and Vicky play the actors from the 80’s and other eras of Bollywood including the current times and the video has been stylised particularly to recreate those looks. The video also has the internet sensation Malika Dua who speaks up for the women in the video. The video has songs like Laal Dupate Wali from Aakhen, Apun bola from Josh, Tera Dhyan Kidhar Hain from Main Tera hero. These songs have been recreated adding fresh, comical lyrics that highlight how harassment or women and objectifying them have been glorified in our films since time immemorial. The video has already garnered positive response since its release this morning.
On why she chose to be a part of this video, Richa said “We are working and thriving in the Hindi film industry and that gives us a right to question few things, especially in today’s context. It’s like arguing with your parents about their long-held beliefs if they are feudal, casteist or racist. In this case, we attempt to question misogyny. That’s all. Art imitates life but life also imitates art. It’s a vicious circle.”
With the video, the makers and the actors want to send out a strong message, highlighting how despite the change that we see in Bollywood, where we now have a few women-centric films every now and then, the real change is yet to happen! Where women are stopped being treated as just a pretty face and hot body. Check out the video and let us know what are your thoughts on this.
