Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan have been married for 11 years and it is their marriage anniversary today (April 20). The two are considered to be a power couple and never fail to make heads turn whenever they step out together. Be it Bollywood parties, red carpet events or their airport spotting. The two may not have worked together in a film post marriage, but their fans cannot help wishing to see their favourite real life couple come together on reel. For after all, it was during working on a film, when cupid did its work and the beautiful chemistry between Aishwarya and Abhishek was out there for everyone to see.
Today, on their marriage 11th anniversary, here’s a look at how the two fell in love, how the proposal happened, followed by the ‘meet the parents’ ritual and finally the exchange if ‘I Dos’. While Abhishek and Aishwarya had worked in a few movies together at the beginning of Abhishek’s career, it was only during Dhoom 2 (2006) when the two started to develop feelings for each other. Even though not romantically paired opposite each other, the love was blossoming. In fact, when the film released, there were rumours of how the Bachchans weren’t happy with the kiss Aishwarya and Hrithik Roshan shared in the film. They didn’t approve of such an act especially when it involved their future bahu. However, the Bachchans and the Rais didn’t comment on it, and speculations continued.
The proposal finally happened the following year, when the two played husband and wife in Guru (2007). It was then when Abhishek reportedly went down on one knee and popped the question to Aishwarya, who said an immediate yes. While the feelings were mutual, they arrived at the shaadi decision together while shooting for Guru. Soon after, the two arranged for an official meeting between the parents and there was no conflict or contest about this rishta. Both the actors had their parents’ nod and blessings and they decided to get them married a few religious rituals later.
According to reports as early as 2007, Aishwarya was a manglik and Abhishek wasn’t and therefore the Bachchans wanted their bahu to participate in a few religious rituals. Media highlighted how an influential family like them are fanning superstitions and archaic beliefs. The fact that the Bachchans and Rais opted for an intimate wedding without much media or celebrity presence also didn’t go down well with many and Abhishek and Aishwarya and their families were criticised for keeping their much awaited marriage ceremony, such a private affair.
Over the years, the couple have been in news for speculations around their relationship. It was also said that there is trouble in Abhishek-Aishwarya’s paradise. It was also said that the Bachchan saas-bahu do not like each other and that the family doesn’t want their bahu to act after marriage. But she continues to be a superstar, a diva that she always was. She is gearing up for Fanne Khan and it is also said that she is helping husband Abhishek get his film career back on track. She is a great mommy to Aaradhya, plans surprise vacations for her family and with the support and love of her family and husband Abhishek, she Ash is able to maintain a work-life balance.
While Abhishek continues to be smitten with his wife, she is looking forward to doing a passionate love story with the husband as their comeback film (as a couple) in Bollywood. Abhishek and Aishwarya continue to be our favourite Bollywood couple and give us relationship goals. We wish them a very happy 11th marriage anniversary and hope to see them light up the big screen with their chemistry real soon.
