That Ajay Devgn does almost all his action stunts by himself is no secret. Ever since his debut movie, 26 years ago, the actor has been performing all action sequences himself. In his upcoming film, Baadshaho, which is an out-and-out action entertainer based on the Emergency period directed by Milan Luthria, there’s one such challenging and complex stunt, that the actor undertook all by himself. Choreographed by German action director, Ramazan Bulut, who has worked on Hollywood hits like Rush and Inferno, Ajay was reportedly expected to slide under an iron-clad truck moving at a high speed.

Needless to say, the stunts were very challenging, despite all safety precautions being placed. For starters, the aperture between the truck and the road was wide enough only for gun to slide in. To make matters riskier, Ajay’s face was only a few inches away from the jagged rotating edges of the truck’s ‘differential’. For the uninitiated, a differential is an engine element prominent in the armoured truck of the 70s. Finally, the stunt sequence needed Ajay, to at the same time, to tug his feet on the ground and haul himself towards the truck’s forefront, all the while looking at the camera. Although the director insisted Ajay to move his head only to the extent it was rendered safe, Ajay surprised everyone with the extent he went. He used his presence of mind and gave a superb shot but owing to the narrow gaps and the rotating wheels and blades, Ajay began to get a claustrophobic attack. He reportedly got very sick and began to get unbalanced.

Speaking about the experience to a leading daily, director Milan Luthria said, “You can’t practice these shots, as they add to the stress. From my vantage position on the truck, I could see that Ajay was feeling claustrophobic because of the narrow gap, the rotating wheels and blades. He doesn’t like tight spaces, though he never complains about it. I had my heart in my mouth, but he gave me a terrific shot with superb presence of mind.”

Reports indicate that when the harness crew went to the rescue of the actor under the vehicle, they witnessed that his leather jacket was partly stuck in the undercarriage, that could have put the actor’s life in jeopardy. While Ajay rebuffed the incident, some crew members reportedly got very emotional.
