Akshay Kumar avoided a big Bollywood clash earlier this year when despite locking his film Padman for January 25, he pushed it to February 9. He took the decision to avoid locking horns with Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh starrer Padmaavat, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. However, as he gets ready to come out with Gold on another patriotic day – August 15, threat of a box office clash looms large. Just a couple of days ago there were reports that makers of Rajinikanth’s 2.0 which also stars Akshay, have the Independence Day in mind for the much delayed film.
And now, we hear that Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika might lock the film for the same date. While there is no confirmation from the involved actors or the film makers, buzz is that there will be a clash. When asked about the same, Akshay said, “Yeh clash kya hota hai? [What is this clash?]… You guys use this term as if we are fighting with each other,” quoted Deccan Chronicle.
The actor further highlighted how for an industry that churns out around 180 film each year and which has only 52 weeks to release the film, situations where there are multiple movies releasing on the same day is inevitable. “We do not have as many theatres, so some films will have to release together. There is no harm in it. Also, we have only 52 weeks, so it is not possible for each film to have solo release dates. Some films will have to release on the same week.”
Interestingly, there is also buzz around town that Manikarnika, that was earlier slated for an April release has been postponed to August, but for August 3 and not for August 15. Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra’s Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar is currently locked for August 3 date.
