Sunday evening saw Pakistan beat India by a whopping 180 runs to win the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 cricket tournament. This was the first time that the country won a Champion’s Trophy title. While those who watched the match would agree that Pakistan did in fact play well, accepting defeat that too against our arch rivals is not every Indians cup of tea.
Twitter was abuzz with celebs and commoners alike mourning India’s loss albeit appreciating Pakistan’s brilliant performance.
However, Pakistani actor, Ali Zafar, has performed in Indian movies such as Kill Dil, Total Siyapaa, Chasme Baddoor, London Paris New York, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, and Tere Bin Laden among others in the past, received a lot of slack for a video he
shared on Instagram and Twitter yesterday before the game even began. In the video, he along with his friend were seen wishing team Pakistan ‘All the best’ for the match ahead of their win. He is seen stating, “Hi guys, this is team #teefaintrouble. We want to wish our team for tomorrow’s match. Wish you the very best, team Pakistan. Happy Victory! Whether you lose or you win, we will always be with you. Team Pakistan Zindabad.” (ALSO READ: Pakistan win – Farhan Akhtar, Ranveer Singh among rest of the B-Town mourn India’s loss, but appreciate Pakistan’s performance)
There were people who went berserk seeing his video.
When it comes to cricket and our soldiers, India and Pakistan can truly never bury the hatchet. Here’s hoping that in the name of sportsmanship, the two countries can let go of these petty issues, and look to performing better in the future.
