The terror attack on Amarnath Yatra pilgrims has killed seven, including five women after a bus (it carried 56 passengers) was attacked by militants. This untoward incident has angered and saddened Bollywood. Reportedly, the attack was carried out by the Lashkar-e-Toiba and was masterminded by a Pakistani terrorist Ismail, said Jammu and Kashmir’s inspector general of police Muneer Khan to a news agency.
Celebrities from the film fraternity took to their social media handles to express their anger and grief. Bollywood stars like Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, Varun Dhawan, Huma Qureshi and Madhur Bhandarkar among others took to their Twitter accounts to condemn the terrorist attack on pilgrims in strong words. The news has left many in shock.
While Shah Rukh wrote, “Saddening to see innocent lives being taken. Prayers for the victims & may God give strength to the families of the #AmarnathYatra pilgrims,” Akshay tweeted, “Attack on innocent #AmarnathYatra pilgrims is a low of another level! Swara Bhasker termed the attack ‘barbaric’ and ‘unjustifiable’ calling the attackers, who caused this loss, monsters. She wrote, “SHAME on this heinous act of terror & crime! U r monsters!! Inhuman barbaric unjustifiable!! #AmarnathTerrorAttack.” Today, she posted, “Dharna in Mumbai tomorrow to condemn terror attack on #AmarnathYatra Hindu Devotees Azad Maidan, 4 pm, 12th July, Wednesday. #StopThisHate,” calling for a Dharna to mourn the death of pilgrims.
With an intention to send out a message of unity and brotherhood, Huma Qureshi tweeted, “For years Kashmiri Muslims have helped Hindu brothers undertake #AmarnathYatra. Shame on terrorists. We will not let hate win#UnitedWeStand,”.
Not only the actors but also the filmmakers like Madhur Bhandarkar, Hansal Mehta, Shekhar Kapur and Mahesh Bhatt tweeted to express their anger and anguish. While director Madhur Bhandarkar tweeted, “My prayers are with #AmarnathYatra attack victims & their families. This disgusting act of cowardice is beyond any reason of any kind,” Bhatt gave a clarion call to fellow Indians to stand united against the terrorists. He wrote, “A tragic night! Time for the nation to stand together and defeat the sinister designs of the terrorists to divide us.”
