Arjun and Anil Kapoor’s Mubarakan released in 2350 screens nationwide on July 28, while Shah Rukh Khan–Anushka Sharma starrer Jab Harry Met Sejal opened at 3100 screens all over the country on August 4. Given the poor performance of the latter at the Box Office, word is that Mubarakan is blazing ahead with the film’s collection seeing a 200 percent rise this Friday. Reports indicate that Anees Bazmee’s film is seeing a spike in the screen count in the second week since its release as the audiences are loving it more than Imtiaz Ali’s film.
Film critic Joginder Tuteja took to Twitter to announce that the film’s collections saw a 200 percent increase this Friday.
The film’s co-producer, Murad Khetani told a leading online portal that it’s heartwarming to see such a great response for the movie. ““The film is receiving tremendous love in the second week. It is such a humbling experience to find screens being increased. This is all because of people’s love for the film,” he said. Furthermore, co-producer, Ashwin Varde told the entertainment portal that it’s not always that a movie does so well in the second week since its release and this goes to show that audiences will always love good content. “So much of love in the second week proves that good content will always be appreciated. We made this film with a lot of love. Now it’s getting the same love from the people,” he said.
This was the first movie which had Anil Kapoor collaborate with his nephew, Arjun Kapoor for a film. Arjun essays a double role in the film–Charan and Karan, identical twins who due to an unfortunate incident end up being reared up as cousins. While one grows up in Chandigarh in the Punjab, the other is brought up in London, UK. The movie gets interesting when the two families begin looking for a bride for both the brothers, completely clueless to the fact that they both have girlfriends. Anil, who is close to both the boys, meddles in the matter to help them unite with their lady loves.
An increase in the number of screens on a weekend that has SRK at the theatres is a very big deal. Another thing working for Mubarakan is that it’s a family comedy and the word of mouth for the movie also seems to be going quite strong. One is definitely expecting to see the film earn more this week until the release of Toilet:Ek Prem Katha that’s set to release on August 11, the coming weekend. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share the numbers.
On the contrary, Jab Harry Met Sejal left everyone unhappy. After Fan, this was the next solo release of SRK but it failed to encash on his superstardom. Just Rs 15.25 crore on the release day is not what’s expected from a SRK film. On Saturday, the movie saw a downward trend in its earnings.
Well, in the end like Ashwin Varde said, audience will always appreciate good content.
