Looks like Telugu films have caught the fancy of Bollywood actors and filmmakers like never before. Just days after confirmation on Vijay Deverakonda’s Arjun Reddy Hindi remake, starring Shahid Kapoor, here’s another exciting announcement. Prasthanam, the 2010 Telugu political thriller directed by Deva Katta, is coming to Bollywood. Sanjay Dutt is turning producer once again for the project (after Rascals in 2011) and will also play the lead in the film. While there was buzz that Sooraj Pancholi will also be a part of the project, we now have confirmation about Fukrey Returns actor Ali Fazal and Amyra Dastur being cast in the film.
Katta will direct the Hindi remake as well with minor changes in the story and screenplay to appeal to a PAN India audience. The Hindi film will be titled Prasthaanam and will go on floors in the first week of June. Dutt will play Loki, the patriarch of a powerful political dynasty and Ali will play his son and Amyra will be seen as ‘Victoria and Abdul’ actor’s love interest.
The original Telugu film starred Sai Kuma, Sharwanand and Sundeep Kishan and was a highly engaging drama where a young man from a powerful political background decides to against the tide and expose the network between politicians and businessmen. It looks like after Bhoomi, Sanjay Dutt wants to get back at all those who wrote him off, with a vengeance. He is on a roll and how. While there is a biopic on him ‘Sanju’ up for release, he himself has some very interesting projects up his sleeve – Kalank, Panipat, Shamshera, Total Dhamaal and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 and Prasthaanam, which will also see him turn producer. We cannot wait to see what Dutt has instore for us!
