Bareilly Ki Barfi is set in the small town of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh and revolves around the life of a free-spirited girl Bitti Mishra (Kriti Sanon). With her dreams and aspirations confined by the small and stereotypical mentality of the society she hails from, Bitti finds solace in the novel Bareilly Ki Barfi. The film is directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari of Nil Battey Sannata fame and co-written (along with Shreyas Jain) by her husband and National Award (Chillar Party) winning director Nitesh Tiwari, who gave us Dangal last year.

The film stars National Award winning actor Rajkummar Rao (Pritam Vidrohi) and Ayushmann Khurrana (Chirag Dubey) in lead roles. Does Bareilly Ki Barfi deserve a watch or is it a film you can skip this week?

India.com film critic Smrity Sharma is watching Bareilly Ki Barfi right now and here’s hew review of the first half of the film.

Smrity says, “The story begins to a slow start, introducing us to the characters of Bitti (Kriti Sanon) whose liberal and free thinking personality is defined by her act of smoking cigarettes, doing break dance and watching English films. For her mother, Bitti’s modern lifestyle is a reason why she is being rejected by potential grooms. Bitti starts blaming herself too but chancing upon a novel ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ gives her a new mission. All she wants to do is meet the novel’s writer Pritam Vidrohi (Rajkummar Rao). With no information about him, she reaches out to the publishing house owned by Chirag Dubey (Ayushmann Khurrana).

“Chirag finds himself falling for Bitti, while for her he is the only way she can meet Pritam. Chirag is slowly making inroads into her heart but is alongside working on making Bitti and Pritam meet. By the interval, we are left intrigued to know how these relationships pan out.

“All the three stars give an earnest performance but Rajkummar Rao definitely steals the show. The narrative picks up to a clear crest as soon as he enters the frame. The story promises us more of him post interval and here’s hoping there’s a lot more of him than we have already seen.” Stay tuned with us for the full review.
