Vidya Balan‘s heart-wrenching partition drama seems to have failed to make masses interested in it. While Balan give it her all to play the character of a loud, manipulative, powerful madame of a brothel, the movie did not make any mark on the box office. While Srijit Mukherjee’s directorial garnered just Rs 3.94 on day one, its collections further declined on Day 2 with just 3.50 cr. The total moolah raked by Begum Jaan so far is Rs 7.44 cr. Trade expert Taran Adarsh wrote, “#BegumJaan declines on Day 2… Fri 3.94 cr, Sat 3.50 cr. Total: ₹ 7.44 cr. India biz.”
Vidya, who is having a bit of a rough phase if BO success is concerned has already shoot for her next movie Tumhari Sulu. She will be playing someone diagonally opposite to her overbearing Begum Jaan persona. She will play a simple housewife who is chasing her dancing dreams. It is musical directed by Suresh Trivedi and Balan has already started work for the same. She told in one of her interviews, “I’ve begun to enjoy dancing…it’s fun. Tumhari Sulu has a great array of songs and I’m looking forward to the rehearsals.”
Trivedi also said, “Music and choreography are integral to the film. They take the story forward. We are working hard on devising unique, candid styles for the tracks. The team is putting together reference video edits for each song and we are working with our production designer, cameraman, and choreographers on everything from the colour palette of the songs to how they will be shot to the moves.”ALSO READ: Begum Jaan Box office collection Day 1: Vidya Balan’s badass avatar fails to impress, film rakes rupees 3 crore
While Begum Jaan seems to have tanked, we are keen for Vidya Balan to revive her box office glory with her upcoming movies. Vidya’s dry spell started with Hamari Adhuri Kahaani and continued with Kahaani 2, Shahid Ke Side Effects and now Begum Jaan. Let’s hope that Vidya makes a dumdaar come back soon.
