When two superstars get together, one can expect a lot of fireworks at the box office, and that is exactly what has happened where Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar’s film 2.0 is concerned. The movie was released worldwide on November 29 and it has already come out tops not only in India, but overseas as well. The movie was released in over 10,500 screens, and is said to have toppled Vijay’s Sarkar from the number one spot by earning a whopping Rs 2.64 crore in Chennai alone.
The movie, which was directed by Shankar and co-written with B. Jeyamohan, had on opening day earned Rs 20.25 crore at the Indian box office. According to entertainment industry tracker Ramesh Bala, the movie performed well in the USA, Australia and New Zealand.
Apart from performing well, 2.0 is also, according to Ramesh, expected to cross movie Kaala‘s life time gross of $1,913,110 in the USA.
A report in Bollywood Hungama stated that the satellite rights of the film have already been sold for Rs 120 crore, with Rs 60 crore coming from digital rights. It also suggested that the distribution rights for North Belt brought in a staggering Rs 80 crore, for Andhra Pradesh/Telangana around Rs 70 crore, and for Karnataka and Kerala Rs 25 crore and Rs 15 crore respectively.
