Actor Aahana Kumra might have received appreciation for her bold performance in Lipstick Under My Burkha but her journey of shooting the film wasn’t easy. In her latest interview with a news daily, the actor talked about an incident that made her feel uncomfortable on the sets.
Aahana played the character of a beautician and she had to perform a sex scene with actor Vikrant Massey in the film. As she revealed in the interview, while she was performing the scene, producer Prakash Jha walked on the sets and passed a remark that didn’t go down well with her. Aahana said she immediately went to the director of the film – Alankrita Shrivastava and asked her why did she have to hear that remark from the respected producer. Alankrita, who’s known as one of the most promising filmmakers of the time, took immediate notice of the incident and asked Jha to leave and the producer did.
Narrating the incident, Aahana said, “I remember once Mr Jha walked in and there was a scene, where I am filming the sex that is happening. Then Mr Jha walked in on the set and he passed a remark and it was so uncomfortable to hear that from. I just went to Alankrita and said ‘he is not my director why he is on the set and why I have to hear a remark from him, with all due respect he is a producer.” She added that it was quite gracious for Prakash Jha to leave the place after realising that she was uncomfortable in his presence. She said, “Alankrita asked him to leave and he left. He understood that space. He understood the fact that we were not comfortable with him around. He just politely left and that’s really nice of him.”
Lipstick Under My Burkha was released to good reviews and its share of applause from the audience after facing a lot of resistance from the Censor Board. The film was presented by Ekta Kapoor‘s Balaji Motion Productions and also featured Konkona Sen, Ratna Pathak Shah and Plabita Borthakur.
