Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt was recently asked by the media at an awards function what she thought of Kangana Ranaut’s statement that celebrities like actor Ranbir Kapoor are not taking a stand on the political and social issues of the country. Alia, who had been publicly accused by Kangana over movie Manikarnika, said that she does have an opinion, but she would like to keep it to herself.
Kangana, who is known for speaking her mind in public, had during her interaction with the media at the success party of Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi said that as celebrities, they do have a responsibility to share their views about the political scenario and other issues in the country.
“I don’t have any intention to join politics or an election campaign of a political party. Many people feel that I want to enter politics but that’s not true. There are few actors in our industry like Ranbir Kapoor where he has been seen talking in an interview that ‘We have regular supply of water and electricity at my home so, why should I comment about politics?’ But I feel because of this country’s people you are living in your luxurious home and you are travelling in your Mercedes so, how can you talk like that? This is irresponsible behaviour and I am not that kind of person,” she had said then.
Alia, who was interacting with the media at the fourth edition of Outlook Business magazine’s Women of Worth awards in Mumbai, reacted to Kangana’s comment by saying, “I definitely don’t have that ability to speak as candidly as Kangana does and I really respect her for that. Maybe, in a way she is right that sometimes we do hold back because we don’t want to talk unnecessarily about an issue.”
“My dad (filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt) always says that there are already so many opinions in the world, so the world can do with one less opinion. So, I have an opinion but I will keep it to myself. But kudos to her (Kangana) because she genuinely speaks really well,” she added.
