Actor Alia Bhatt has shared the first look of her and actor Varun Dhawan from their upcoming film Kalank. The two actors have been paired opposite each other for the fourth time in a Hindi film. Alia took to social media to praise Varun for his performance in the Dharma Productions’ film and said she can’t wait for the audience to see his work. The actress wrote, “& it’s a film wrap for Varun on KALANK.. Our 4th film completed together and he still manages to surprise me with his hard work and crazy energy everyday.. Also manages to make me laugh like a crazy person by just being himself.. I can’t can’t can’t wait for you guys to see the stuff he’s done with his character in the film!!!! 🙌💫⭐️ 💃🏻🌞#KALANK” (sic)
Varun and Alia debuted together in the Hindi film industry with Karan Johar’s directorial Student of The Year (2012). The two then went on to star in the hit ‘Dulhania’ series – Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014) and Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017). All their four films together are with Dharma Productions.
Meanwhile, Kalank, directed by Agneepath fame Abhishek Varman, is a period drama. Another very fascinating anecdote about the film is that its narrative was conceptualised by Karan Johar’s father Yash Johar around 15 years back. Apart from Varun and Alia, Kalank also features Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur and Hiten Tejwani in important roles. The film which is set in the 1940s is slated to hit the screens on April 19 this year.
Earlier, praising Alia’s performance in the film, producer Karan Johar told IANS, “I saw something that Alia had done in Kalank and I was just so moved by the work she had done. I won’t disclose what it is (but) she has done something in the film. You know when I see Alia I get that feeling like I’m seeing my daughter perform. And because I have that emotion for her I just started crying in the end for some weird reason. I’m going through something internally which I’m not aware of and I just got very teary. And I rang her up and said her I got very emotional, well done”.
