There is no dearth of animal lovers in India, but loving them and taking care of them are two very different things. Now it has emerged that actress Anushka Sharma is all set to open a veterinary hospital and animal shelter at her family plot in Maharashtra’s Shahapur. The Zero star had announced the plan on her birthday in May last year, but because the land was in dispute, the project stalled.
A report in Mid-Day revealed that the project was not able to move forward because the land in Dahagaon village of Shahpur taluka, is agricultural. It was only recently that Anushka received the all-clear from the Thane Collector’s office to build the shelter. The family had acquired the five acres of land for Rs 4 crore and work on it had started in 2016.
The report further revealed that the land is in Anushka’s mother Ashima Sharma’s name as she holds a farmer’s certificate and that as per Indian laws, only farmers can buy agricultural land anywhere in the country. The snag came when the family wanted to convert the land from agricultural to non-agricultural.
Sources also revealed to the online portal that Anushka, who has started a foundation in her name, will also construct a bungalow for her parents and they will be staying there to look after the shelter. The idea for the shelter, as per the sources, was suggested to Anushka by her spiritual guru.
Now with everything falling into place, the actress has decided to have a veterinary hospital there along with the shelter and she is, as per the sources, consulting with a team of experts from Udaipur about the project.
If the pictures she posted on her Instagram page are anything to go by, we can say that Anushka will make for one perfect owner of an animal shelter. Posing along with her husband Virat Kohli, she captioned the pictures, “Love is beyond and above everything. The only thing that’s real. It’s all-encompassing and beyond the reach of the mind. Happy Valentine’s day to all.”

On the work front, Anushka was last seen in movie Zero alongside actors Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif. The movie did not do so well at the box office, but Anushka was praised for her role as a scientist who’s suffering from cerebral palsy.
